Bouwmeester Out of Minnesota

Minneapolis, MN - As many expected after hearing rumors that Jay Bouwmeester was on the trading block, Bouwmeester was dealt this morning to the Niagra Falls Icedogs. Bouwmeester was dealt for defenseman John-Michael Liles and draft picks in the upcoming draft. Bouwmeester appeared frustrated outside of his Minneapolis condo Sunday morning and had this to say to reporters.

"Those f#@*ers do this every year. Last year it was Derek's (Roy) name and they moved Marc (Savard) & Zherdev and this year it's me. I'm going to miss the fans and I was happy to be apart of a good run last season but I'm excited about the change."

Bouwmeester's name was linked in a report yesterday in a deal that would've sent winger Zach Parise home to Minnesota. It's no secret Minnesota has been pushing to get Parise for the past three years and the team still has considerable interest in making a deal. Mike Cammalleri's name has been linked however it's unclear if GM Chris Kubinec will move Parise.

"We're happy with this deal," stated GM LaDouceur. "Liles is a good puck moving defenseman and the two extra draft picks will help us build our farm system. Jay is a solid defenseman and will likely be one of the best in the game once he hits his peak. The moves we made earlier in the week to bring in Keaton Ellerby & Jordan Leopold really helped us make this deal happen and we think Liles will fit well in our high-tempo offense next season."

LaDouceur briefly spoke of changes to this year's club and suggested Head Coach Barry Melrose may be done with the team. No word as of yet but we'll continue to keep you informed. He also stated that the team is getting a revamped look in the team's jerseys & logo. Stay tuned for more info.
