Team USA In Gold Medal Game

Vancouver, BC – Team USA pulled off a big upset last night as they beat the Canadians 6-4 to advance to the gold medal game against Sweden. Canada was the favorite coming into the tournament and had an undefeated record up until last night’s loss. The Americans were sparked by their first line consisting of Mike Modano, Zach Parise and Jason Pominville who scored 5 of the team’s 6 goals.

The Americans had a strong start going into the second period with a 4-1 lead led by Zach Parise’s 2 goals and one assist and Ryan Miller’s 15 saves. The US was able to hold on thanks to the strong play of Miller in net who ended the game with 33 saves on many very difficult shots by the high-powered Canadian offense.

“He stopped some big ones for us tonight and I don’t think there’s a better goalie in the world right now than Ryan Miller,” stated veteran leader, Mike Modano. “This was a big win for us tonight but we’re here to win gold and we have one more that we need to win. No one expected us to be here but us, and we need to finish off what we came here for tomorrow night.”

The US will face off against Team Sweden for the gold medal. The two teams played one another in the final match of preliminaries leading to a 2-2 tie.
