Rats On Verge of Sweep

Minneapolis, MN – In one of the most unlikely of scenarios, the Minnesota Rink Rats could sweep the Rocky Mountain Express in this evening’s home game. Last night’s 6-5 overtime victory in Minneapolis put the Rink Rats up 3-0 in the semi-finals on the verge of entering their first Cup Finals in the team’s history. Jay Bouwmeester was the hero of the night scoring 5 minutes into overtime and assisting on 3 others and much like the previous two contests, the Rink Rats won by one goal.

The Rink Rats, who will have 4 chances to closeout the series, would likely take on the Niagara Falls Icedogs should they advance to the next round. The Icedogs are up 3-0 in their series against the Quebec City Corinthians in what has been a surprising series thus far. Still though, Minnesota doesn’t want to get ahead of themselves and sites the recent comeback by the Icedogs as proof that anything can happen.

“We know this is a tough team and we’ve played a close series thus far,” stated Head Coach Barry Melrose. “I’m really pleased with how everyone has played thus far. Look at guys like Patty O’Sullivan & Ryan Potulny who are contributing and making an impact every night; its fun to see. Still we have a job to do and not get ahead of ourselves. Look at the Icedogs’ comeback against the Sparrows and you know that anything can happen in the playoffs. We’re going out with a nothing-to-lose attitude and we’re going to play our best hockey yet. Everybody is going to need to continue to play mistake-free hockey and get shots on net.”
